Breaking Addictions

Pray for freedom from enslaving habits through Christ, truth, community, and wise care.

Scripture

John 8:31-36

Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” They answered him, “We are Abraham's offspring, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How do you say, ‘You will be made free'?” Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin. A bondservant doesn't live in the house forever. A son remains forever. If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

Romans 6:6-14

knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. But if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him; knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no more has dominion over him! For the death that he died, he died to sin one time; but the life that he lives, he lives to God. Thus consider yourselves also to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore don't let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Also, do not present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace.

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Pray these

  1. Father, bring every hidden pattern into the light of Your truth and mercy.
  2. Father, break the power of shame, denial, and isolation.
  3. Father, show me the practical way of escape when temptation comes.
  4. Father, give me courage to seek pastoral, clinical, medical, and community support where needed.
  5. Father, renew my desires and teach me to present my body and choices to You each day.
