Hearing God's Voice

Pray for learning to recognise God's voice and quiet the noise around it

Scripture

1 Samuel 3:8-10

The LORD called Samuel again the third time. He arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down. It shall be, if he calls you, that you shall say, ‘Speak, LORD; for your servant hears.'” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak; for your servant hears.”

John 10:27

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

1 Kings 19:11-13

He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” Behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake a fire passed; but the LORD was not in the fire. After the fire, there was a still small voice. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle, went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. Behold, a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Pray these

  1. Lord, teach me to know Your voice from my own anxious thinking.
  2. Quiet me enough to hear what You've already been saying.
  3. Where I've asked for a sign instead of sitting with You, forgive me and draw me closer.
  4. Give me courage to obey the last thing You said before I ask for more.
  5. Surround me with people who help me test what I think I'm hearing.
