Emotional Healing

Pray for tending what's been carried too long, without spiritualising it away

Scripture

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

Psalm 42:5-11

Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him for the saving help of his presence. My God, my soul is in despair within me. Therefore I remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon, from the hill Mizar. Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your waves and your billows have swept over me. The LORD will command his loving kindness in the daytime. In the night his song shall be with me: a prayer to the God of my life. I will ask God, my rock, “Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?” As with a sword in my bones, my adversaries reproach me, while they continually ask me, “Where is your God?” Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance, and my God.

Isaiah 61:1-3

The Lord GOD's Spirit is on me; because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion, to give to them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

Pray these

  1. Lord, heal what I've been managing instead of grieving.
  2. Where I've called something 'unspiritual' that simply needed care, give me a better word for it.
  3. Meet the part of me that still flinches.
  4. Give me wisdom about counsel, rest, and help, and humility to receive them.
  5. Restore joy slowly, honestly, without pretending.
