Courage

Pray for holy courage rooted in God’s presence, love, and truth.

Scripture

Joshua 1:6-9

“Be strong and courageous; for you shall cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous. Be careful to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you. Don't turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. Haven't I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid. Don't be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

2 Timothy 1:6-8

For this cause, I remind you that you should stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. Therefore don't be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but endure hardship for the Good News according to the power of God,

Acts 4:23-31

Being let go, they came to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. When they heard it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, “O Lord, you are God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who by the mouth of your servant, David, said, ‘Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take council together, against the Lord, and against his Christ.' “For truly, in this city against your holy servant, Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together to do whatever your hand and your council foreordained to happen. Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus.” When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

Psalm 20:7-8

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust the name of the LORD our God. They are bowed down and fallen, but we rise up, and stand upright.

Psalm 138:3

In the day that I called, you answered me. You encouraged me with strength in my soul.

Proverbs 24:10

If you falter in the time of trouble, your strength is small.

Mark 10:49

Jesus stood still, and said, “Call him.” They called the blind man, saying to him, “Cheer up! Get up. He is calling you!”

Pray these

  1. Remind me that courage begins with Your presence, not my personality.
  2. Father, break agreement with intimidation, people-pleasing, and fear of failure.
  3. Father, give me boldness that remains loving, disciplined, and obedient.
  4. Father, help me act on what You have already made clear.
  5. Use my courage to serve others and bear faithful witness to Christ.
