Promises

Pray for confidence in God’s promises rightly understood through Christ and Scripture.

Scripture

2 Corinthians 1:18-22

But as God is faithful, our word toward you was not “Yes and no.” For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, by me, Silvanus, and Timothy, was not “Yes and no,” but in him is “Yes.” For however many are the promises of God, in him is the “Yes.” Therefore also through him is the “Amen”, to the glory of God through us. Now he who establishes us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God; who also sealed us, and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts.

Hebrews 10:19-25, 35-36

Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; and having a great priest over God's house, let's draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with pure water, let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful. Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as you see the Day approaching. Therefore don't throw away your boldness, which has a great reward. For you need endurance so that, having done the will of God, you may receive the promise.

Numbers 23:19

God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it good?

Hebrews 4:16

Let's therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need.

Proverbs 29:25

The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in the LORD is kept safe.

Psalm 62:7-8

With God is my salvation and my honor. The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us. Selah.

Psalm 146:3

Don't put your trust in princes, each a son of man in whom there is no help.

Pray these

  1. Father, teach me to interpret Your promises in their biblical context.
  2. Father, anchor me in Christ, in whom Your saving promises are fulfilled.
  3. Father, give me endurance between promise and fulfillment.
  4. Father, protect me from presumption, manipulation, and claiming words You have not spoken.
  5. Father, help me hold fast because Your character is faithful even when timing is hidden.
